“Palm Beach isn’t hip. It isn’t the new Tulum, and it doesn’t have Miami’s clout as a happening winter getaway. It is, however, unabashedly iconic.”
I landed in Palm Beach on Sunday, and I already feel relaxed and refreshed. But before I left, I published a guide to Palm Beach on MyDomaine, for anyone else who is here over the holidays! Read on below.
Winter hasn’t even arrived, but that’s not stopping me from scheming next summer’s getaways already. American Beech has caught my eye in a major way, and this is why.
Opened in August, this five-bedroom hotel sits in the quaint town of Greenport, NY, just one short ferry north of Shelter Island. Traditionally a seafarer’s destination, in a region lined with vineyards, the North Fork of Long Island just may become the next hot spot, thanks to a Manhattan Lawyer with a vision. Brent Pelton revamped the property, originally known as Stirling Square, with the help of interiors firm BHDM and Dan Mazzarini. The aesthetic is nautical seaside, but also modern and understated.
“We looked at iconic imagery but didn’t want to beat anyone over the head with it.”
Frette linens, striped floors, rope accents, and Montauk Summer Ale behind the bar… This place has everything to tug at summer weekender’s heartstrings. But if you don’t feel like waiting until memorial day, you’ll be glad to hear that the restaurant is currently open for dinner and brunch, and—according to the New York Times—the fried chicken is “the best north of the Mason-Dixon line”. Consider our curiosity piqued.
With Montauk getting unbearably crowded, we can’t wait to check out this North Fork spot come Memorial Day!
BACK TO OUR REGULAR BEACHY/BOHEMIAN/MODERN PROGRAMMING…
It seems as though I’ve been waiting for this hotel to open for freaking ever—and it finally has! I’ve mentioned Halcyon House before, namely because it was decorated by one of my all time favorite designers, Anna Spiro.
You see, I started my blog when I was living in Australia (you might not remember this because it was eons ago and I had like three followers back then). Anna Spiro was one of the early interior design bloggers, and one of the few that were located in Australia at the time. So she quickly became a mentor—a #spiritanimal of sorts (hate that word, sorry).
She’s been flying a little under the radar lately, but with a project like Halcyon House on her hands, who could blame her? The place looks like paradise on earth; like Disneyland but better—way, way, way better. It’s as if Surf Lodge and the Soho Beach House had a lovechild… Basically, what I’m tyring to say is that I’m booking a flight to Australia stat.
I had to Google Cabarita Beach, because I wasn’t familiar with the place—it turns out is a quick 30 minute drive from Byron Bay—one of my favorite places in the world—which I’ve also talked about in the past. You guys, this place is so so special: the sunsets, the sea breeze, the coastline, the beachy bohemian vibe… Argh! Australia, you hold such a dear place in my heart.
I’m super excited to be packing for a girls weekend in Montauk today! To be honest, I’m kind of struggling with my packing (I feel like I need a shopping spree stat). BUT if I had it my way, this is exactly what I would pack. Four versatile outfits to take me from day to night; and from the beach to dinner. The key to Montauk style is to keep your outfits simple, chic and to the point. Flats are definitely the way to go as the flooring of choice in many places consists of sand, pebbles or grass… And a good frizz control hair product is essential!
Lauren, a few gal pals and I will be staying at the Montauk Yacht Club, so follow along on Insta and Snapchat!
