Last Minute Tricks to Make Guests feel at Home

Guest Bedroom Essentials to Make them Feel at Home • @SavvyHome

“Being a good host is all about those few, important details that let guests know you’re happy they’re there and want them to be comfortable” —Nate Berkus

The holiday season is upon us and overnight guests are only a few days away. Here are a few guest bedroom essentials to make them feel extra welcome in their cozy quarters this year. Get ready to fluff up and turn down your guest bedroom in preparation for the holidays.

The essentials

Put yourself in your guests’ shoes and try to anticipate their needs. Always have a luggage rack or bench in the room to make unpacking more pleasant. Replace lightbulbs in the bedside lamps, clear out the bedside tables and empty drawers in the nightstands and dressers. Make sure there are enough hangers in the wardrobe. Install a mirror (ideally full-length) so they can quickly fix themselves before coming down for breakfast. Most importantly, leave a spare key on a pretty key ring so they can come and go as they please. Get the technicalities out of the way by leaving a one-sheet ‘manual’ with useful information such as WiFi passwords and alarm codes.

The linens

Crisp quality bedding and fresh towels is key. Ironing the sheets ahead and spritzing them with lavender spray right before is a surefire way to know they’ll feel ultra-special. Always keep extra blankets handy in case your guests are feeling extra chilly. If your guests are staying for more than a few days, bathrobes and slippers are a nice touch.

The extras

Anticipate what they might have forgotten (toothbrushes, bath products, etc) and prepare a guest welcome pack arranged nicely in a tray. Add a few goodies like chocolate, magazines, a box of tissues, a notepad+pen or a guidebook if your guests aren’t familiar with your city. Include a water carafe with glasses in case your guests get thirsty at night. Before they arrive, arrange a simple bouquet of fresh flowers on the nightstand, light up a scented candle and play a loungy playlist on the Bluetooth speaker/alarm clock to make them instantly feel at home.
