“The hotel balances city sophistication with a local perspective.”
—Nicole Hollis, Designer
The Buchanan Hotel sits at the edges of affluent Pacific Heights and historic Japantown in San Francisco. The once dated hotel was revived with the help of designer Nicole Hollis—whose main goal was to reflect the essence of the two neighborhoods in the design. She achieved this by adding subtle nods to traditional Japanese craft, mixed a sort of sophisticated but welcoming bohemian feel that’s very San-Fran.
The lobby’s ceiling is graced with a chandelier composed of 3,100 Japanese whiskey bottles. Perhaps my favorite aspect sof the design is the De Sede leather sofa that wraps around the lobby’s public areas, and the fiber arm chairs that surround the communal table.
