“It’s a beach house! There will be sand on the floor and kids running around, and that’s the way it should be.”
The Patricof’s Malibu Beach cottage is everything a beach house should be: low-maintenance, whitewashed and breezy. It’s a house where kids can run around and parents can throw cocktail-parties around the outdoor stone fireplace. It’s the kind of house you never want to leave, or at least that’s how owner Kelly Sawyer Patricof describes it: “we will drive up there on a Friday, park the car, and won’t get in it again until we have to go back”.
Patricof enlisted the help of friend and interior designer (and former singer/actress) Brigette Romanek to revamp the 1950s beach bungalow in the Malibu Colony. The launching point: the clear blue Malibu sky that inspired the modern wingback chair in the cheerful hue; and a layered neutral palette. The built-in bookshelves in the family room showcase a collection of pottery and objets. Everything was planned with sandy feet and casual cocktail parties in mind.
