My Bedroom and A Love Letter to My Tuft & Needle Mattress

Gabrielle Savoie's Bedroom • Tuft & Neeedle Mattress Review on @SavvyHome

When I moved into my apartment, the first thing I tackled was my bedroom. This was my first experience at living in a high rise building and I wanted to create a cozy but clean hotel room feel. I knew I wanted to upgrade to a queen bed and the move seemed like the perfect excuse! I fell head over heels for this four poster bed from West Elm (FYI—it’s still 50-60% off!) because it reminded me of my stay at the Ludlow Hotel. I bought it sight unseen and had it delivered on move-in day.

Upgrading to a queen meant that I also needed a new mattress—something I absolutely HATE shopping for. So when Tuft & Needle offered to send me one of their mattress to try, I couldn’t say no. Worst case scenario, I’d just get a new one, right? The mattress arrived in a tiny vacuum-sealed box, and I’m still hating myself for not filming what happened next. Within minutes of cutting through the plastic wrapping, it had unfolded and expanded perfectly into place.

I won’t lie, I take my sleep very seriously and I was a little skeptical at how comfortable a vacuum-sealed mattress would be. I’ve been sleeping on it for about 5 months now, and I can honestly say that it’s the most comfortable mattress I’ve owned (even more so than the memory foam mattress I previously purchased for 6x the price)!

I will say this though: as much as I love the feeling of sinking deep into a mattress before dozing off, softer mattresses personally give my back pain after a few days, so I need a firm mattress, and this one is definitely very firm. It has amazing support, but if you don’t like the feeling of a firm mattress you might not like this one. I got a super fluffy duvet cover and pillows to maintain that soft hotel bed feel and it’s worked perfectly for me.

I looked into their mattresses last month and they are made with petroleum. Not heathy to sleep on like all memory foam. For all the time one spends in bed a mattress filled with chemicals, they take a toll on one;s health. Theirs also has a chemical anti fire retardant which is another health issue in most conventional mattresses.

      Hi Jess,

I’m the Co-founder of Tuft & Needle. We don’t use any chemical flame retardants. We use a rayon/polyester knitted fabric that is inherently flame retardant.

Our foam is synthetic as most foams are. We have the offgas and VOCs tested regularly for harmful substances. We are CertiPUR certified.

Thanks for clearing that up JT 🙂

The mattress sounds great, and very similar to Casper mattresses, which is what I just bought. I wish I had filmed it coming out of the box too, I was wrestling with it and I’m sure looked completely crazy! Thanks for sharing!

Hahaha me too! That being said it’s probably the only mattress in the world I could have even attempted to install alone so that says a lot 🙂
